GWK Bali Vacation Experience With Family
My wife gave me the idea to have a family vacation by visiting the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park. My wife is curious and wants to see firsthand the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, completed on August 4, 2018.
Then my wife and I conveyed the idea of a holiday to GWK Ungasan Bali to our children. Two of our children agree to have a holiday to GWK Ungasan, and one of our children disagrees. However, with persuasion, our children finally decided to visit GWK culture park Bali.
Leave Home
We leave early, at around 10:00, from home. But not to go directly to GWK Bali. Due to heat and the Kecak dance performance at GWK Ungasan starting at 18:30.
We are heading from our house to Padang’s culinary places in the Tanjung Benoa tourism area. The site’s name to eat is Rumah Makan Padang Rindu Rasa, which serves only halal food. Therefore, if you want halal food around Tanjung Benoa Nusa Dua Bali, you can try dining at Rumah Makan Padang Rindu Rasa Nusa Dua.
After lunch, I invited my children to visit the Mall Bali Collection in the ITDC Nusa Dua tourism area. Mall Bali Collection is one of our family’s favorite shopping places because the atmosphere is comfortable and not too crowded. After a walk around the Nusa Dua Bali Collection mall, without notice, the time is running fast and showing at 3:30 p.m.

Journey to GWK Bali
At 15:40, we departed from Nusa Dua Bali Collection Mall towards the Garuda Wisnu Kencana culture park location, with travel time from Nusa Dua to GWK Ungasan around 45 minutes.
We know that if we go to GWK from the Jimbaran area, the road must be jammed in the afternoon. So we decided on another route that leads to Melasti Beach in Ungasan. According to estimates, it turned out to be correct; there was a traffic jam on Jalan Raya Uluwatu Ungasan.

Vehicle Parking Rates at GWK
After passing the road congestion at Jalan Raya Uluwatu, our family entered GWK culture park Ungasan. Then we headed to the parking lot. Before arriving at the parking lot, we pay the vehicle parking fee. Because we as a family use a car, we pay for vehicle parking at GWK Ungasan for IDR 10,000 / 1 car with flat parking rates.
Vehicle | Parking Rates |
---|---|
Car | IDR 10,000/Flat |
Car Box / Truck / Pick-Up | IDR 20,000/Flat |
Motorcycle | IDR 5,000/Flat |
When paying for the parking ticket, the clerk asked me! How many participants will access the GWK culture park Ungasan area? I say there are two adults, two children, and one infant.
Then the clerk gave me an entry ticket booking card. The pre-order form card shows the date, car license number, and number of adult and child participants.
After providing the entrance ticket form pre-order, the officer informed me. To purchase a Garuda Wisnu Kencana entrance ticket, the pre-order form must be shown at the ticket counter.

Arrive At The Vehicle Parking Lot
When I arrived at the parking area, I was pretty surprised. Because the vehicle parking lot at GWK is quite extensive, but it is full of vehicles. After around the parking area, I found an empty slot to park my car. It turned out that the type of car parked most of them was Toyota Avanza, Toyota Kijang Innova, and many large-size tourism buses.
My family and I headed to the GWK entrance ticket counter location from the parking area. It turned out I was right. GWK visitors when I was there booming, and the queue to pay for entrance tickets was very long. My wife and I alternately queued.
In the Plaza Bhagawan area (name of the entry ticket purchase counter), a notification shows that you must use the pre-order form to purchase the Garuda Wisnu Kencana culture park entry ticket.

Paying Entrance Tickets at Bhagawan Plaza
After queuing up in line at Plaza Bhagawan, it was my turn to pay for the Garuda Wisnu Kencana admission fee. The Garuda Wisnu Kencana, culture park entrance tickets, are paper bracelets that visitors will tie to their wrists.
After getting the entrance ticket, my wife and I tied the paper bracelet to my children’s wrists. Then we rushed to Plaza Kencana to find the entrance to the Kura-Kura Plaza. When entering the Kura-Kura Plaza gate, we only need to show the paper bracelet on our wrist, and the clerk invites us to come in.
Plaza Wisnu
To get to Plaza Wisnu (the site of the Vishnu statue), you must go up the stairs and then pass through the Kura-Kura Plaza area. Based on My GWK Bali vacation experience, upon arrival at Plaza Wisnu, the visitors were dominated by school children. So taking family photos with the statue’s background at Plaza Wisnu without anyone else is challenging.
Plaza Garuda
After taking a few family photos at the Plaza Wisnu, our family continued heading to the Garuda Plaza. Like in the Wisnu Plaza, the number of tourists dominated by school children is also considerable. So it’s challenging to take family photos without anyone else in the picture’s background.
Lotus Pond
From Plaza Garuda, we descend the stairs heading to the GWK Lotus Pond location. At the GWK Lotus Pond location, there are Segway activities, and you can rent a segway. At that time, my children were not interested in trying Segway. My children were more attentive to immediately seeing the statue of Garuda Wisnu Kencana up close, especially my oldest child.
Festival Park – GWK Bali Vacation Experience
From the GWK Lotus Pond location, our family headed to Festival Park. You can see the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue from the Festival Park area.
After taking many family photos, my youngest child cried out, asking to go home. Want it or not, we decide to follow our most youthful child’s request. We were then passing GWK Lotus Pond, and from the Lotus Pond, we headed to the entrance gate.
After I passed the food court area adjacent to the Amphitheater, our youngest child asked for food. Then we immediately noticed she cried because she wanted to buy ice cream. After eating, we did not decide to visit the Indraloka Garden area because the Kecak dance performance in the Amphitheater would begin.
Kecak Dance Performance at GWK Amphitheater
From the food court, our family rushed to the Amphitheater. By looking at the number of visitors who come, I know if we don’t immediately look for a seat in the Amphitheater. The change is that we will not get a seat while watching the Kecak dance. It’s true. The bench in the Amphitheater is half-filled.
We sit close to the stage but not indirectly in the middle area. One by one, GWK visitors began to enter the Amphitheater area. Before the Kecak dance performance started, all the seats were occupied, and I saw some visitors sitting on the steps.
At 6:30 p.m., the Kecak dance performance in the GWK Amphitheater began.
We didn’t finish watching the Kecak dance because I was worried the Amphitheater exit door would be crammed if we vacated the Amphitheater after the show. Therefore, we left the GWK Amphitheater area before the Kecak dance performance ended.
After exiting the GWK Amphitheater area, the sky was dark. Our family decided to go to the vehicle parking lot to head home.
The GWK amphitheater, an outdoor venue, is well-known for hosting Balinese dance performances. The Kecak Dance used to be performed every night at the amphitheater, but it has been relocated to Lotus Pond. The GWK Kecak performance at Lotus Pond starts at 18:00 and ends at 18:45.
It’s worth noting that the Kecak Dance at GWK Lotus Pond is complimentary and included in the entrance fee. This differs from other locations in Bali, where you must purchase a dance performance ticket to enjoy the Balinese Kecak dance.
